Special Touch serves as a fiscal intermediary for CDPAP (the Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program), an NYS Medicaid program that allows consumers to choose someone they already know (like friends or family members) to earn a salary as their non-professional, in-home caregivers.

Community support is key to the caregiving role, and at Special Touch, we are strong advocates of the well-being of our network of caregivers and patients. There is also a wide range of community resources for residents of Queens. Here is a list of a few places to start:
- The Alzheimer’s Foundation of Staten Island offers weekly support groups for caregivers in locations around Staten Island. There are also early patient and spousal support groups.
- NYC Caregiver connects family caregivers in New York City with resources provided by the National Family Caregiver Support Program. You’ll find a wealth of information on the site as well as local resource centers in each of the five boroughs.
- The staff at Presbyterian Senior Services provides guidance as well a range of caregiver services. Presbyterian Senior Services has ‘Circle of Care’ stations in all five boroughs and offers help in both English and Spanish.
- SAGE Staten Island inside the Pride Center of Staten Island offers many social events. SAGE (Services and Advocacy for GLBT Elders) is the world’s oldest and largest organization devoted to meeting the needs of elders in gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) communities. The organization’s New York chapter offers caregiver training, support groups and additional supplemental services.
